As revealed on Arsenal.com(Pictures Courtesy Of), Arsenal have revealed their away kit for the 2017-18 season. Heavily dependent upon blue, it certainly is more appealing that the army(and other) styles of recent times.

For your information, we will get the chance to see a trial run of the kit in the very near future. In fact, we will get to to see it this weekend, Saturday to be precise, in the Emirates Cup when Arsenal square off against Benfica.

It’s good to see that two players linked with exits in recent times, Ozil and Bellerin are at the front of promoting the kit, a good indication that we will keep both players beyond the current transfer window.

Hopefully we will not see too much of an experimental side this weekend, because, despite two good signings, we are still short of one or two players. For my liking we need a commanding holding midfielder. Yes, we do have great flair in the middle but Xhaka et al at times lose control of the midfield and this often results in losing control of the game. To my mind there is no point getting Mbappe or Lemar if we can’t control the midfield. To that end, when we are overrun in the midfield, this results in players like Ozil going AWOL since they often have to prioritise defensive cover instead of focusing on their creative abilities.

Anyway, that’s my rant for the day…..good kit, need more imposing midfield signings, and, no youth teams for the cup this weekend!

Arsenal New Kit

With the release of the new kit, are the Gunners making a statement?

Featuring two reported wannaways - Giroud and Sanchez, the club appear to be making a statement about where they will be for the coming season.

That aside, the new kit is certainly colourful, however, not sure how the skin tight fit will suit most of us fans! I think the elastic might stretch a little there?

Please leave your comments below as to what you think this shoot tells us about whether we will lose Sanchez, and what you actually think of the kit?

Experience

2013 - 2015

Caen

0 goals from 10 appearances in 2013-14 did not set the field ablaze in his first season. His second season netted only 1 goal from 26 games before his move to Monaco.

2015/6 - 2017

Monaco

5 from 34 games might seem paltry but it was a continuation of his gradual improvement during his first season with Monaco. Then, last season he began to realize his promise by netting 14 in 55 games despite not being the spearhead of the attack.

About Lemar

  • Born: 12 November 1995(currently 21)
  • Height: 1.7 metres(5 foot 7)
  • Position: Midfielder(attacking)

Value

2016

During 2016, Lemar's value incresased from around 5 million in Jan to around 17 million by the end of the year.

2017

according to transfermarkt.co.uk, Lemar's current value is around 20.5 million pounds. However, recent bids suggest that the highly inflated market will add at least 50% to that figure.

Skills

Goals Per Game
Goals 26%
Assists
Assists .264 26%
Passing
Passing 83%

Stats show that Lemar's value has increased exponentially in the last year or so, so Arsenal may have missed the boat in getting the best value for money.

That aside, at 21 years of age , and, given the massive rise in transfer fees over the last couple of years, it is possible that Lemar could still end up being a wise imvestment. Given also that Mbappe will only be sold for figures north of 100 million, Lemar is much more a realistic proposition.

Essentially an attacking midfielder with the panache of Ox or Walcott, Lemar has, it seems a much better finish. Walcott's finishing is less than powerful despite his 100 goals for the Gunners, and, Ox flatters to deceive, one minute a wordl beater the next a hard working but barely noticeable combatant.

There are, of course a few concerns:

  • Can he adjust to the EPL?
  • Will his progress continue at the rate shown recently?
  • Will he at 58 kg be strong enough to remain injury free.
  • Can Arsenal get him at a reasonable price?

Given the limited experience that he has, his talent is clearly enough to justify interest from the Gunners. Will he end up a world beater or Walcott 2.0? .....Watch this space!

With some quotes saying that Arsenal will have to pay 130 million for Mbappe, is he really worth it?

With Sanchez possibly going out the door, the answer is yes! Here's Why:

  • Sanchez will likely command a sale fee of 50 million, a significant profit.
  • This fee will reduce Mbappe's purchase price to around 80 million, which will be further offset by other departures.
  • Sanchez is at his peak, this will be the best time to sell to gain the most favourable deal.
  • Sanchez has about 4 years at his peak, Mbappe has 14 years.
  • The massive escalation in transfer fees mean that 130 million will likely be surpassed by his resale value in a few years.

But can Mbappe really fill Alexis' boots? There is no doubt that Sanchez is at his peak: 72 goals in 145 games for Arsenal clearly surpasses his 47 in 141 for Barcelona, and his 21 in 112 for Udinese.

Mbappe showed massive improvement in his second season to score 26 goals in 44 games for Monaco. This is almost exactly the same ratio as Sanchez' 30 goals in 51 games for Arsenal last season.

Clearly, one player will not necessarily win Arsenal the title, as shown by the failure to win with Alexis here. However, the price should not be prohibitive(as shown above), and, his pacy ability to put the ball in the back of the net should match(and probably surpass) that of Alexis Sanchez!

Arsenal Release New Kit...Nothing To See Here

With the release of the kit, Arsenal attempted to emphasise the joy of being a gooner, the oneness of the team and the excitement necessary to foster massive merchandise sales.

The question is: Is the kit sufficiently an upgrade to warrant the cost of replacing what one already owns?

The reality is that the kit is only marginally different, and this will likely deter parents from shelling out masses of dosh to help their kids stand out as current and cool.

Likely, though, as it is with any iphone release etc, that there will still be hordes of masses who will purchased the kit for bragging rites.

However, for me, the kit is nothing new here.

The Career Of Giroud In A Shapshot

Grenoble 2005-7

Giroud began with a modest 2 goals in 25 games for the Ligue 2 side. His elevation followed 5 years with the youth academy, eventually signing his professional contract at age 21.

Istres 2007-8

14 goals in 34 games showed the emerging Giroud to be striker who could deliver. He was just short of the 1 in 2 formula that marks a good striker.

Tours 2008-10

36 goals in 67 games for the Ligue 2 outfit was a top notch return and was subsequently signed by Montpellier for 2 Million, although he was loaned back to Tours for the remainder of the season.

Montpellier 2010-12

His 39 goals in 85 games showed that he could adjust well to the change from Ligue 2 to Ligue 1. This also resulted in his being called up for national competition, making his first of the 64 appearances for France.

Arsenal 2012-17

Giroud moved to Arsenal in 2012 for the sum of 12.4 million Euros, quite a good profit for Montpellier. The striker always had a hot/cold appreciation with the fans, perhaps due to scoring 98 in 226 appearances, under the 1 in 2 formula often used to judge strikers. During the 2016-17 season, Giroud often appeared from the subs bench, playing second string to Alexis and Welbeck. The lack of game time led to speculation that Giroud would soon be on the move, as we discuss below.

Editorial – Why Arsenal Should Sell Giroud

Giroud, being over 30 has undoubtedly peaked and whilst his career is not over, certainly the band is warming up. So, who would buy a player in the evening of his career? Many would. Even though Giroud’s season tally of 16 for 2016-17 was the lowest of his Arsenal career, he did have only limited opportunities.

Now for the crucial bit. A somewhat unspectacular career for France has blossomed in the last year or so, scoring 8 goals in 14 matches for France in 2016, and, 6 goals in only 5 matches in 2017(at the time of writing).

Clearly Giroud’s international performances show that the striker still has much to offer, and, clearly is a factor in the reported figure of 20 million.

So, why sell?

  • Now over 30, Giroud is subject to the same criteria that motivated the sale of Van Persie to United.
  • Whilst he is banging them in with ease on the international stage, his club tallies are good but not spectacular.
  • A purported fee commanding 20 million would be a tidy profit for Arsene Wenger who is always prudent in the transfer market.
  • Arsene Wenger has promised a serious title challenge and will require a striker who can approach the goal a game excellence of a Lacazette, Ronaldo or Messi(if Arsenal can afford and negotiate such a deal)

Olivier Giroud has been a loyal and consistent servant of Arsenal F.C., however, it is time for him to move on and enjoy the final years of his distinguished playing career.

Mbappe:

"First and foremost, Mbappe has been a phenomenal revelation this season at such a young age.

"It is hard not to watch him closely. He is scoring so many goals and every week, it's in your face!

"I have been monitoring him and he really is a quality player.

Also:

Lacazette:

"I feel the same about Lacazette. I have seen him for a good few years now and he is always scoring goals."

Editorial View

Oxlade-Chamberlain is a positive guy. However, the likelihood of getting both is quite slim. In fact, the chance of getting Mbappe has seemingly shrunk rather than grown over recent days. It is much more likely that Lacazette is more attainable . However, it is also apparent that every time the Gunners go for someone, the ears of their rivals perk up and their chequebooks slide out of their pockets! Despite this, Ox's comments surely will cause salivation in even the most diehard Arsenal fan!! The question is, Why are we after a player we will have to pay over 100 million for? In his 2 seasons for Monaco, Mbappe has improved dramatically. His first season was poor for a striker, 1 goal in 14 appearances, however, last year he broke the strikers' target of a goal every 2 games by scoring 26 in 44 games. For an 18 year old, Mbappe has demonstrated a fantastic ability to adapt and thrive. Lacazette, on the other hand, will cost less, has a better scoring ratio(for now!) by putting 37 balls in the back of the net in only 45 games last year. But, at age 26, he is in his prime and has about 6 years left at the top compared to Mbappe's potential 14 years. It is clear why Arsenal will have to pay 100 million plus for Mbappe as compared to 60 million for Lacazette. If only the Ox's comments bore fruit and both strikers came to Arsenal, what a buffet of joy that would be!!

Manchester United Release Ibrahimovic

ZLAT'S YOUR LOT..

Why Manchester United were right to let Ibrahimovic go....

Manchester United Release Ibrahimovictransfer window Premier League Title Jose Mourinho F.A. Cup EPL English Premier League #Zlatan #released #Manchester United #Ibrahimovic #Ibra #EnglishPremierLeague

By Simon

Arguably one of the best signings for United in the post Ferguson years, Ibra made an immediate impression for United in his first season, scoring 28 from 46 in all competitions. So, why did United let him go? Here's why in was a great decision:

Whilst 28 goals from 46 games would be a great tally for any top flight striker(the benchmark often being the 1 in 2 equation, ie, 1 goal for every two games), it was a slight decline off his goal a game average of recent seasons(50 from 51 for PSG in 2015-16).

Whilst it's true that it does take time to adjust to the pace of the Premier League, how much improvement can an ageing body(35) do better each successive season when the body is deteriorating with each passing year?

In addition, his injury on 20 April 2017 against Anderlecht, resulting in Ligament damage, sidelined him for a lengthy spell. As anyone knows, recovering from serious injury takes longer the older that one gets. Even if Ibra makes a 100% recovery(bodywise), how long would it take him to rediscover his sharpness and motivation?

Zlatan does not lack self-confidence, that's one thing that's certain, however, a world-class striker who is well and truly over his peak, who is showing signs of dropping off in his strike rate, and, who is recovering from a serious injury, is not in a position to command the earnings that he could once haven earned, nor could he be AS effective in leading the line in Champions League matches.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is an absolute legend, and, he may still warrant record breaking figures in leagues such as MLS. However, to lead the line for Manchester United is a bridge too far. This legend will likely best be served by remaining....the stuff of legends
