Arsenal New Kit

With the release of the new kit, are the Gunners making a statement?

Featuring two reported wannaways - Giroud and Sanchez, the club appear to be making a statement about where they will be for the coming season.

That aside, the new kit is certainly colourful, however, not sure how the skin tight fit will suit most of us fans! I think the elastic might stretch a little there?

Please leave your comments below as to what you think this shoot tells us about whether we will lose Sanchez, and what you actually think of the kit?

Why Mbappe WILL Fill Alexis’ Boots…

Why Mbappe WILL Fill Alexis' Boots...transfer window The Gunners Premier League Title Kylian Mbappe F.A. Cup EPL English Premier League Arsene Wenger Arsene Arsenal FC Arsenal #Mbappe #Gunners #Football #FA Cup #EnglishPremierLeague #Alexis Sanchez #Alexis

With some quotes saying that Arsenal will have to pay 130 million for Mbappe, is he really worth it?

With Sanchez possibly going out the door, the answer is yes! Here's Why:

  • Sanchez will likely command a sale fee of 50 million, a significant profit.
  • This fee will reduce Mbappe's purchase price to around 80 million, which will be further offset by other departures.
  • Sanchez is at his peak, this will be the best time to sell to gain the most favourable deal.
  • Sanchez has about 4 years at his peak, Mbappe has 14 years.
  • The massive escalation in transfer fees mean that 130 million will likely be surpassed by his resale value in a few years.

But can Mbappe really fill Alexis' boots? There is no doubt that Sanchez is at his peak: 72 goals in 145 games for Arsenal clearly surpasses his 47 in 141 for Barcelona, and his 21 in 112 for Udinese.

Mbappe showed massive improvement in his second season to score 26 goals in 44 games for Monaco. This is almost exactly the same ratio as Sanchez' 30 goals in 51 games for Arsenal last season.

Clearly, one player will not necessarily win Arsenal the title, as shown by the failure to win with Alexis here. However, the price should not be prohibitive(as shown above), and, his pacy ability to put the ball in the back of the net should match(and probably surpass) that of Alexis Sanchez!

Arsenal Release New Kit...Nothing To See Here

With the release of the kit, Arsenal attempted to emphasise the joy of being a gooner, the oneness of the team and the excitement necessary to foster massive merchandise sales.

The question is: Is the kit sufficiently an upgrade to warrant the cost of replacing what one already owns?

The reality is that the kit is only marginally different, and this will likely deter parents from shelling out masses of dosh to help their kids stand out as current and cool.

Likely, though, as it is with any iphone release etc, that there will still be hordes of masses who will purchased the kit for bragging rites.

However, for me, the kit is nothing new here.

Whilst The Fans Wait For The Silver Bar..Will They Miss The Gold Nugget?

There is no doubt Arsenal supporters are anxiously waiting for the oft touted Marquee signing. Names such as Mbappe waft in a smell of promise, a hint of glory. In a team of attacking options such as Alexis Sanchez, and, consistent international performer, Giroud, a promising striker will add a little. Why only a little? If we lose Sanchez’s 20 odd goals and gain a 20 odd goal striker, the tally will only alter modestly. If is kind of like acquiring a silver bar, valuable but not earth shattering.

However, gaining a defender on a free might be the gold nugget that is easy to overlook. Compare the stats in this infographic that appears on www.oulala.com:

Whilst The Fans Wait For The Silver Bar..Will They Miss The Gold Nugget?transfer window The Gunners Kolasinac EPL English Premier League Arsene Wenger Arsenal FC Arsenal #Gunners #Football #EnglishPremierLeague #Alexis Sanchez #Alexis

Kolasinac could prove to be a true gold nugget. He betters our current options significantly in most areas. Not only are his interceptions much better at 3.2 than Monreal at 2.5 or Gibb’s significantly lower return, his forward contributions absolutely glow in comparison. With 3 goals and 5 assists, his competition in the team can only muster 0 goals and 3 assists between them.

Truly Kolasinac has the potential to shine like a true gold nugget.

There is no doubt that fans will not be happy until the marquee signing arrives. However, it is best not to overlook the gold nugget whilst waiting for the silver bar.

Southampton 0 – Arsenal 2

Arsenal go to 5th after a 2nd half wake up to sail past Southampton away.

Alexis, who had wasted possession on multiple occasions, found a moment of inspiration to slot Arsenal ahead with half an hour to go, and Giroud doubled the lead to put the match to rest.

Arsenal again shared in a dour first half(as they often do), and this appears to be an ongoing problem for the Gunners, something they will need to address to beat pressing teams like Liverpool.

The win takes Arsenal to 5th, still some way from gaining a champions league spot.

Mourinho on Wenger-The Leopard Changes It’s Spots?

#AFCvMUFC

As quoted on ESPN, Mourinho has done a 180(apparently) in his opinion of Arsene Wenger. The leopard truly has changed it’s spots!

Consider the following quotes:

  • “Football now means if you don’t get success then you are gone — so yes, I feel bad for other managers. When you are at one club for 20 years it is impossible to have success every single year. Even Sir Alex will tell you that.”
  • “The truth is that I hope Wenger keeps his job at Arsenal. I really do. I hope that the club trusts him to make things better. I think that Arsene is probably the last example of a manager who brings stability to a club over such a long time”
  • “Sir Alex was the same at United and he was able to leave when he knew it was time to leave. I hope that it is the same with Wenger. Why not?”

Jose went on to say that he will likely field an understrength team tonight and hopes this makes Wenger happy.

Is this truly the leopard changing it’s spots? Or, is it another chapter in the Mourinho mind games? It is unlikely that Jose would try to increase the confidene of his opposite number, but, we will learn more later today

Arsenal 1 – Leicester 0: The Monreal and Alexis Show!

As It Stands

Latest soccer data here. Currently loading stats from the football information feed.

A resurgent Leicester team challenged the Gunners for long periods today, however the Gunners had two unlikely stars:

1/ Monreal followed up his recent goal with another after 85 minutes. The goal, however, won’t be credited to him since it was going wide and only found the net due to a huge deflection off Leicester’s Huth. That being the case, Arsenal still owe the Spaniard a debt for his confidence that led to their victory.

2/ Alexis. Notice the image assigned to this blog? After 92 minutes, the Arsenal made a bizarre play for Oscar nomination. After spending time trying to obstruct a Leicester throw(apparently legally), the throw struck Alexis on the shoulder, he turned to see if everyone was watching, then threw himself to the ground clutching his face. He was unsurprisingly booked for the dive. He followed this up shortly afterwards by shoulder barging a Leicester opponent from behind, and, again fell clutching his face! Well, Alexis won’t get an Oscar for those performances but he at least got the attention of the referee!

Leicester continued their revival under Shakespeare. They not only threatened but looked solid in defence. They deserved a point but even though that didn’t happen, they look like a brighter future awaits than it was under Ranieri in recent times. It took only an unavoidable error in the last 5 minutes of normal time for their defence to be compromised, and they should be proud of their efforts.

In truth, this game was a good test for Arsenal’s mental strength considering their recent fragility. They spent some time with the new back 3 formation before returning to the back 4 of previous times. Having passed this test, Arsenal should have sufficient confidence for the weekends bigger test.

Wenger how has a highly respectable win ratio of 59.57%, 28 from 47 games in charge. In the EPL his season stands at 18 wins from 32 games(56.25%). It’s good to remember that these percentages are superior to last year when Arsenal finished 2nd.

Alexis Sanchez WON’T Be Sold, Here Are The If’s And Buts…..

Speculation just won’t back down that Sanchez is just about out the door, so Arsenal Manager, Arsene Wenger sought to calm nerves on the Alexis Sanchez contract saga, and succeeded, sort of!

On the plus side, he said:

“I don’t think that you would sell him to any Premier League club, that is for sure.”

Well, that’s a reasonable promise that he won’t be banging them in against Arsenal anytime soon.

However, he also said:

“I let Van Persie go in the last year of his contract because Van Persie was 29, going on 30, and he was signing a long-term contract. That is not the case with Alexis. Alexis is 28. So that is a bit different.”

So, what we read into that is that Van Persie was sold because he was 29, and Alexis is one year away from Van Persie’s position. How does this translate into new contract language? Well, it means that a new contract will need to be a lengthy one(since his current contract already has a year to go). To keep Sanchez after 30 means that his value will go down each year as his body begins to age. To keep Sanchez for 5 years(until 33) would mean that he would be sold as a good player, with experience and skill, but not necessarily with his explosive speed on the turn.

The fact that no contract has so far been signed was alluded to by this comment:

“The disagreements are more purely contractual.” What this means is that either money, or length of contract, are the sticking points. If the manager thought that Van Persie was approaching the twilight of his career at 29, will he be willing to smash the wage structure for a player one year the junior over an extended period of 5 years? It seems unlikely.

So, what we know is that Arsenal will try to prevent Sanchez join an EPL rival. However, both sides would like to keep the status quo of Alexis being an Arsenal player although both sides are entrenched in different views as to what he would be worth as a player over 30. This problem may well be solved in the summer as Arsene says, but, it will require compromise by one or both parties.
