With some quotes saying that Arsenal will have to pay 130 million for Mbappe, is he really worth it?

With Sanchez possibly going out the door, the answer is yes! Here's Why:

  • Sanchez will likely command a sale fee of 50 million, a significant profit.
  • This fee will reduce Mbappe's purchase price to around 80 million, which will be further offset by other departures.
  • Sanchez is at his peak, this will be the best time to sell to gain the most favourable deal.
  • Sanchez has about 4 years at his peak, Mbappe has 14 years.
  • The massive escalation in transfer fees mean that 130 million will likely be surpassed by his resale value in a few years.

But can Mbappe really fill Alexis' boots? There is no doubt that Sanchez is at his peak: 72 goals in 145 games for Arsenal clearly surpasses his 47 in 141 for Barcelona, and his 21 in 112 for Udinese.

Mbappe showed massive improvement in his second season to score 26 goals in 44 games for Monaco. This is almost exactly the same ratio as Sanchez' 30 goals in 51 games for Arsenal last season.

Clearly, one player will not necessarily win Arsenal the title, as shown by the failure to win with Alexis here. However, the price should not be prohibitive(as shown above), and, his pacy ability to put the ball in the back of the net should match(and probably surpass) that of Alexis Sanchez!

Arsenal Release New Kit...Nothing To See Here

With the release of the kit, Arsenal attempted to emphasise the joy of being a gooner, the oneness of the team and the excitement necessary to foster massive merchandise sales.

The question is: Is the kit sufficiently an upgrade to warrant the cost of replacing what one already owns?

The reality is that the kit is only marginally different, and this will likely deter parents from shelling out masses of dosh to help their kids stand out as current and cool.

Likely, though, as it is with any iphone release etc, that there will still be hordes of masses who will purchased the kit for bragging rites.

However, for me, the kit is nothing new here.

Will Giroud Leave? Here’s Why It Should Happen…

Giroud to leave? Why that’s good..

Will Giroud Leave? Here's Why It Should Happen...transfer window The Gunners Premier League Title Olivier Giroud F.A. Cup EPL English Premier League Arsene Wenger Arsene Arsenal FC Arsenal #Soccer #Gunners #Giroud #Football #FA Cup #EnglishPremierLeague

The Career Of Giroud In A Shapshot

Grenoble 2005-7

Giroud began with a modest 2 goals in 25 games for the Ligue 2 side. His elevation followed 5 years with the youth academy, eventually signing his professional contract at age 21.

Istres 2007-8

14 goals in 34 games showed the emerging Giroud to be striker who could deliver. He was just short of the 1 in 2 formula that marks a good striker.

Tours 2008-10

36 goals in 67 games for the Ligue 2 outfit was a top notch return and was subsequently signed by Montpellier for 2 Million, although he was loaned back to Tours for the remainder of the season.

Montpellier 2010-12

His 39 goals in 85 games showed that he could adjust well to the change from Ligue 2 to Ligue 1. This also resulted in his being called up for national competition, making his first of the 64 appearances for France.

Arsenal 2012-17

Giroud moved to Arsenal in 2012 for the sum of 12.4 million Euros, quite a good profit for Montpellier. The striker always had a hot/cold appreciation with the fans, perhaps due to scoring 98 in 226 appearances, under the 1 in 2 formula often used to judge strikers. During the 2016-17 season, Giroud often appeared from the subs bench, playing second string to Alexis and Welbeck. The lack of game time led to speculation that Giroud would soon be on the move, as we discuss below.

Editorial – Why Arsenal Should Sell Giroud

Giroud, being over 30 has undoubtedly peaked and whilst his career is not over, certainly the band is warming up. So, who would buy a player in the evening of his career? Many would. Even though Giroud’s season tally of 16 for 2016-17 was the lowest of his Arsenal career, he did have only limited opportunities.

Now for the crucial bit. A somewhat unspectacular career for France has blossomed in the last year or so, scoring 8 goals in 14 matches for France in 2016, and, 6 goals in only 5 matches in 2017(at the time of writing).

Clearly Giroud’s international performances show that the striker still has much to offer, and, clearly is a factor in the reported figure of 20 million.

So, why sell?

  • Now over 30, Giroud is subject to the same criteria that motivated the sale of Van Persie to United.
  • Whilst he is banging them in with ease on the international stage, his club tallies are good but not spectacular.
  • A purported fee commanding 20 million would be a tidy profit for Arsene Wenger who is always prudent in the transfer market.
  • Arsene Wenger has promised a serious title challenge and will require a striker who can approach the goal a game excellence of a Lacazette, Ronaldo or Messi(if Arsenal can afford and negotiate such a deal)

Olivier Giroud has been a loyal and consistent servant of Arsenal F.C., however, it is time for him to move on and enjoy the final years of his distinguished playing career.

Another brief spell in charge although his eyes were reportedly on the Juventus role.

May 2011 - July 2014

Juventus

Perhaps his peak, achieving much success. He had coveted this role for some time and his enthusiasm bore results. Eventually, he left for a national role.

August 2014 - July 2016

Italy

Ends his time after losing a penalty shoot-out to Germany. Was nicknamed "The Godfather" due to the way he talked and the way he made them want to listen.

July 2016 - ?

Chelsea

A very successful season for Chelsea with the greatest win ratio of his managerial career. Discontent emerges in the summer transfer window over transfer plans and budgets...

Best Reigns

Chelsea 78.7 79%
Juventus 67.5 67%
Italy 56 56%
Siena 50 50%
Bari 47.8 48%

With a best length in managerial reign of 3 years, Conte is no Wenger. Given that he likes to go out on a high and that his tenures are often brief, the likelihood is that Chelsea could soon bid adieu to their very successful coach!

FA Cup Semi Final – Arsenal Put The Manchester To Bed

….or, a tale of two City’s

Arsenal put Manchester City out of the FA Cup with a 2-1 victory in extra time.

There is a saying that football is a game of two halves but in reality this was a game of 1 half, the 2nd half. The first half was composed of 3 motors running at half speed, as Arsenal, City, and, the team of Officials not operating at anywhere near their best.

With the commencement of the 2nd half, the game began. Two great goals by Monreal and Aguero put the battle on even feet before Sanchez’s extra time winner gave Arsenal some reason for hope in a dreary season.

There seem to be two Mancheter City’s this season. The team of stars, able to break down any defence, and, the underachieving team on display today.

City rightly point out that they had a goal disallowed. But, are there really grounds to complain when:

1/ Sections of the Arsenal defense had stopped competing, thinking that the ball had gone out of play? And,

2/ Arsenal should have had a penalty, which Howard Webb(as a commentator) confirmed was beyond doubt?

However, City had put the ball in the back of the net, and, the ball was NEVER out of play, so, despite the above 2 issues, they should have been awarded the goal.

Arsenal, on the other hand, are faring well with their new formation of a back 3, and some would question the inclusion of Monreal and the exclusion of Bellerin. However, Monreal was a revelation today and not just a goal scorer.

People will be critical of Guardiola, especially as he won’t secure his customary trophy in his first season, however, his win percentage is a healthy 62.96%(wikipedia) in his first season, not too shabby!

For the stats buffs, here are the match stats:

Possession: Arsenal 34% City 66%

Shots: Arsenal 9/3 On Target   City 20/3

Corners: Arsenal 6 City 7

Fouls 20 each
